Do I need prior experience?No, the program is open to all youth regardless of experience.

What types of volunteer opportunities are available?Opportunities include event assistance, event coordination, marketing, digital tools and more.

Are there networking opportunities?Yes! We host monthly networking events and an annual Youth Conference & Volunteer Fair.

What are the qualifications and requirements for volunteers?You must be 12 years-old or older to join our virtual volunteer program; 14 or older for our in-person opportunities. You must reside in Canada for the duration of your volunteer period. You must have access to a computer and the internet. You must be passionate about education. You must be enthusiastic and ready to learn. You must be able to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per month in the virtual volunteer program. For in-person recurring events, you must not fail to show up without prior notice more than once; otherwise, your registration will be withdrawn.

Can volunteer hours from U+ TM be used towards fulfilling community involvement hour requirements for high school graduation?Yes, U+ TM volunteering hours can be counted towards OSSD community hours.

How will I get my volunteer hours?When your volunteer period has ended, send us the record form from your school or school guidance to have it signed off via tm@upluseducation.ca. Please fill in as many blanks as you can before sending it across.

Do I need to do both in-person and the virtual volunteering to join the team?No, you don't. You have the option of signing up for in-person, virtual, or hybrid, in the sign up form.

Am I confirmed for a shift after signing up and providing my availability?No, there is a volunteer selection process that takes place after the response window closes. We take your availability into consideration and send a confirmation email to selected volunteers closer to the date of the event.

Can I volunteer if I am an international high-school or university student currently studying in Canada?Yes, you are welcome to join our volunteering opportunities so long as you are currently residing in Canada for the duration of your volunteer commitment.

What counts towards my hours?At U+ TM, any training, meetings, lessons and activities you participate in will count towards your hours! Only community activity hours at U+ TM or other non-for-profit organizations can be counted to the OSSD requirement* *OSSD activity hours eligibility may differ

What is Gavel Club?Gavel Club is an affiliate of Toastmasters International, specifically designed for youth under the age of 30. It provides members with opportunities to improve their public speaking, leadership, and communication skills.

What are the benefits of joining a Gavel Club?Improved public speaking and communication skills Enhanced leadership abilities Increased self-confidence Opportunity to network with peers Participation in structured meetings with prepared and impromptu speaking exercises

What is the structure of the Gavel Club?A typical meeting includes prepared speeches, impromptu speaking (Table Topics), and evaluations. Members take on various roles, such as Speaker, Evaluator, Timer, and Grammarian, which helps them develop different aspects of communication and leadership.

How does a club membership work?Our Gavel Club offers flexible membership packages based on the number of sessions you wish to attend. You can choose from packages that allow you to attend 10, 15, or 30 sessions. Each session allows you to attend one club meeting. For example, if you purchase 15 sessions, you can attend 15 meetings.

How do I pay?Once receiving an email for payment, please follow the external link. Credit card or Paypal is accepted.

What is your refund policy?If you have not attended any sessions, you are eligible for a refund. However, a $50 processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount. Please contact us within a reasonable timeframe to request a refund.

Can I transfer my membership to someone else?Yes, if you are unable to use your membership, you can transfer your registration to a sibling. Please reach out to us to facilitate the transfer process.

Is there an expiration date for my membership?There’s no strict expiration date for your membership, but we encourage you to attend regularly to make the most out of your membership. Please check with us if there are any specific time limits for using your purchased sessions.

Can Gavel Club members compete in speech contests?Yes! We have a few contest and speaking opportunities during the season and we promote them to our members to join.

Hours and locations?Hours of operation: 8:00AM – 5:00PM. Summer Camp School locations are announced in Markham: East Markham - Markham District High School Please visit our website on a regular basis for any updates or contact info@upluseducation.ca. Note: Camp is first come, first serve. Should a location be at maximum capacity, students will be placed on the waitlist.

Age range?The campers are 5-12 years old. If your children are outside the range but are still interested, please contact us for an assessment before registration. The best way to contact us is via email. info@upluseducation.ca

What payment methods do you accept?As an NPO e-Transfer is our default and preferred method. However you can pay outstanding fees with a credit card from the email link provided and a processing fee will apply.

ReferralsWe offer a $50 coupon for each family referral. Referrals will be processed in June after the registration period has closed. UPlus Toastmasters reserves the right to make changes to this referral policy at any time.

What is the maximum amount of referral credit we are able to gain?No maximum.

Is there CWELCC funding for campers under 6 years of age?CWELCC is an incredible program that has the goal of offering childcare for a low average cost. However this program is only applicable for daycare centres and unfortunately we are not part of the childcare system. The Before and After Care program we offer is supplementary to the camp programs we offer and can be purchased for parents that require an early drop off or late pick up.

Is there any financial assistance for the program?Canadian Tire Jumpstart® A community-based charitable program that helps kids age 4 to 18 participate in organized sports and recreation programs so they can develop important life skills, self-esteem and confidence. National in scope, but local in focus, Canadian Tire Jumpstart® delivers support to children in financial need through a Canada-wide network of local chapters. Here are some important details: Children are eligible for up to $600 per calendar year; a maximum $300 for the same sport. Grants will not exceed a maximum of $150 per application. Please note that our goal is to reach as many children as possible therefore grant amounts will vary. Programs or activities must encourage physical activity. Funding preference is to pay for registration fees. Approval of funding is dependent on available funds. Funding is available for members of the same family for the same season. Eligibility All applicants must reside within Markham. Eligible applicants include children and youth between the ages 4 and 18 years of age. Funding should be for a sustained program that lasts a season. One week camps are not eligible. How to Apply If you would like to apply for the support through Canadian Tire Jumpstart® program, please apply online.

What are your late fees?We charge $1 / min for late fees if you did not previously pay for before/after-care. Pick up must be completed at 4 pm if you did not purchase extended care. So if you came at 4:35, you will be charged $35 in late fees. Pick up must be completed at 5 pm for all parents.
